Corset and Bustiers first made their appearance hundreds of years ago when they were worn by aristocrats and royalty throughout the Renaissance period. They became a popular fashion accessory during the 16th century, when women started wearing them as an item of clothing rather than an under-garment, and when the 17th century rolled around the corset bustier became associated with erotica and eroticism. In a very short amount of time it became a clothing item that was worn to increase a person’s sexual desire. Corset bustiers rely on two things to provide shaping and support: the lacing (or hooks) for closing and tightening the corset, and boning to provide extra stiffness and uniformity of shape. Boning is the term for rods of steel or plastic, sewn into the corset in a mostly vertical orientation. Boning used to be made from whale bone – hence the name. Corset bustiers can be anything from simple and cute, to lavish and seductive. Use as a cute top, or combine with garter belts, stockings and matching panties for a stunning intimate look.
